On "Fear 1" and "Fear 2"
The idea for these two paintings came about after reading the newspaper one Saturday morning. I had come across numerous stories about people who either killed or became violent toward someone who insulted their personal beliefs. As I read the stories, I thought it’d be cool to create an alter ego that represents these people. A figure that lingers just beneath the surface but emerges, like the Hulk, when they are fear-stricken, have their ego hurt or values trampled.—Ray Arcadio
